Judging from the outside and her beautiful beaming smile you would never know the struggles that Erin Abay has been through since she was a baby and that’s just how she likes it. She does not let her medical issues define her. Residing in a small town not far from Dallas, Texas 28 year old Abay lives with her husband Mike and their ridiculously adorable fur baby, a shih-tzu named, Ducky.
Diagnosed with cystic fibrosis by 18 month old Erin’s failure to thrive continued with chronic ear infections, digestive issues, asthma, as well as becoming a diabetic by the age of 12. To top it all off, she had to live with an ostomy bag as a teenager after a medicine that she had taken for her digestive issues caused a problem that destroyed her colon. Thankfully at 15 she had the ostomy reversed but she never forgot how difficult having the bag was which is why she reached out to us on social media after our initial interview aired. Even though she no longer had a bag Erin was thrilled to see a company finally doing something about the lack of medical friendly clothing.
Each one of our products has a story behind it, all of them are unique and inspiring and sometimes we’re able to share them. Today Megan is allowing us to share hers.
On her 26th birthday Megan was diagnosed with a rare eye cancer, Ciliary Body Melanoma, naturally she was floored. Who gets cancer at 26? She was as young mom, daughter, married with a career. Luckily the prognoses was good and she made a full recovery. The re-occurrence rate was so small she wasn’t worried, no way she’d be that 3% and as the years passed so did her angst over it returning.
Sure there were a few bumps like divorce along the way but no cancer in sight.
Some of those bumps were actual bumps and by the time she reached 30 her brood grew to 3 amazing, happy and healthy boys. Like any mother she loved her boys and wouldn’t trade them for the world but she still had that nagging feeling that all mothers of boys get-she wanted a little girl. Boys were fun but with a girl you get to experience different adventures.
One of our inspirations and favorite clients shared a video with us showing exactly why our products are needed and today we are sharing it with you! Your continued support is what keeps the heartbeat of our company going!
We are so proud of our girl Kenzie for not letting anything stop her. Back in the fall she lost part of her leg in a scheduled amputation due to a past accident not healing, doctors said it would be a few months until they could get her a prosthetic made but amazingly enough that hasn't stopped Kenzie at all!
She has taken up baseball and gymnastics and we are so amazed to watch her go out and tackle life. Last week she was finally fitted with her prosthetic and we cannot wait to see her accomplish even more of her dreams! Thanks for letting us be a part of your care and journey Kenz!
It’s been awhile since we’ve updated you guys and that’s because we’ve been busy hitting hospitals from NY to FL to find out what current patient needs are. The latest needs being met? Colostomy and ileostomy bags.
In case you’re lucky enough to not know what they’re for they are used by people who are unable to get rid of their own, um stuff, therefor the intestines empty into these bags. Sounds gross? Well it’s a fact of life for our patients and they are sick of going out to run errands only to be self conscious.
Which is why we designed the dress below.
Fashionable yet functional it allows the wearer to go out into public wearing something cute while the inside pockets are lined and sealed allow the bag and what comes with it to hide safely away. We can’t wait to see what our testers think of it! What do you think of it?
Our newest patient and beta tester might only be 2 but he certainly looks to be kicking chemos butt and will now be doing it in style while rocking #lifetackled gear.
This summer he was diagnosed with aversa stage 3 neuroblastoma after many months of tests trying to figure out why he was so lethargic. Unfortunately they uncovered something no parent ever wants to find.
This little fighters cousin reached out to the #LT team when it was apparent to the family that the double lumen chestport was causing him discomfort in normal clothes. So we are currently whipping something up that we wish they made in adult size. Our prayers and positive vibes are with you lil dude.
We love seeing our patients bounce back from obstacles in their lives, especially the children!
Kenzie* is the face of our children’s line, last week she had to have her leg amputated due to it not healing from a past injury, this week I am so proud to see her bouncing around & trick-or-treating. I’m glad LT could make a difference during such a trying time and we hope to continue to do so.

Yesterday was the official first day of summer....
Though with the heatwave we had last week you'd think summer arrived sooner. Regardless, the team at Life Tackled has been logging mucho hours in at the gym in hopes of getting that summer body. But as we all know sometimes our body has different opinions on what it wants to look like which is why many people consider getting liposuction or a tummy tuck.
While being healthy is the most important thing we also understand that many people care about how they look on the outside. At Life Tackled we believe you should be allowed to do what makes you happy and for many people plastic surgery offers a solution to problem areas where exercise and diet don't seem to help.
So if you're considering getting one of these procedures keep in mind your doctor may require you to wear drains or a compression garment post procedure for optimal healing results. These items are generally worn anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks*
Our Marissa kaftan offers a fun stylish look on the outside while having the ability to hold these drains on the inside. Its a must for anyone who doesn't want to live in baggy t-shirts post recovery or be stuck inside while recovering. Its also a great choice for patients undergoing breast surgery and the like. Available at an affordable price the Marissa kaftan makes healing that much easier.

LT fashions in the operating room? Seriously? Yes, you read that right.
One of our clients suffers from a condition that requires her to go under anesthesia every few months while the doc does his thing to make sure her condition remains in check. It's a pretty quick trip in and out, maybe 4 hours tops. However this last time she was telling us how even for a quick trip she was over freezing while waiting in pre-op, being wheeled in and then recovering in post-op. Then she asked us to design an operating room friendly set.
Challenge accepted our freezing friend.
Unlike our recovery & treatment room garments our operating room clothes would have to be completely accessible for the nurses in case of an emergency* It was a bit of a challenge but we came up with an adorable and dare we even say sexy wrap top that allowed for complete and total access while still keeping our client toasty warm. Meet the Chantelle.
Unlike our other designs the Chantelle is still in beginner beta stage but we have a toasty feeling (maybe its the shirt) that it will be on our online store very soon.

LIFE TACKLED FOR THE WIN!!!!
Today we are super excited--not only because we're writing our first blog post on our new site but because we're also writing it from beautiful California!
Recently our founder, Elyse, entered one of her awesome textile designs in the AMGEN Breakaway From Cancer fashion design contest......and won!!! She beat out over 500+ fellow designers and her design will be featured on the Breakaway kaftan for 2017 thanks to The Bold and The Beautiful's Katherine Kelly Lang! In addition AMGEN flew some of the LT crew out to California to help the boss lady unveil her design at the finish line today. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday that's for sure! We are so excited and proud to be part of the LT team and cannot wait to see what the future holds.
